I agree, one of the BIGGEST problems I cloainutlny see with analytics is the inability to transfer data from one account to another or take a profile from one account and turn it into another account. I work in a large ad agency and this has been a serious hindrance to effective dealings with our clientele. Account managers are not necessarily web specialists, so they almost always make the mistake of creating all their clients under one profile in order to more easily manage them. Then the client wants to move on, and we have to tell them that they can’t take their data with them and will have to start over. It’s a mess. If you do a web search on the topic, you find page after page, thousands of people looking for the same thing only to find it can’t be done. I hope Google is aware of this issue and will soon make this process easier and more fluid, there are a world of advertising professionals who will thank you.

As an aside; I for one would like to know what Google plans to do with its Adsense integration. I asked for, and revieced it, but you can only link one adsense account to one analytics account.I have websites that should be in separate accounts, but I want to track adsense on them – some are sites i’ve done for smaller organisations where I get to run ads in leiu of other payment to cover the cost of the site, while some are sites i’ve set up as hobbies. Will Google introduce a way to attach multiple analytics accounts to one Adsense account so each separate group can still be tracked?

  • as I website owner I believe the subject material here is really great , thankyou for your efforts.

    • Our site-tracking started off with an iesnretted employee creating a profile in his account. Now that employee wants to hand over the profile to the web-admin, who after some lobbying has become iesnretted. This is probably the way things go in “agile school” organisations.Requesting that people not “try out, and adapt” but “make it right from beginning” is something I associate with a completely another sort of organisations. I am confident that Google will soon support a transition making transfer smooth for “try out, then go serious”.I am sure

  • Very good blog post. I certainly appreciate this website. Stick with it!

    • I don’t think this is quite right as a definition and could cause consfuion. Sure, its the way GA should be used, but it isn’t the way it MUST be used – and it will confuse anyone with multiple sites. I have a client with 65 different websites; I can’t have 65 different accounts because the limit is 25, so I have to have more than one website (i.e. different tracking codes) in each account. Each of these websites has filtered profiles. So there are therefore 3 entities: an account, a Master Profile, and filtered profiles. An account can have more than one master profile, each of which can have filtered profiles, again within the same account.
